The Radiophonic Workshop
Limited Numbered Edition of 500, blue vinyl
First released in 1975, this new reissue of the third Radiophonic Workshop album comes in a numbered limited edition of 500 on blue vinyl. Most of the music was written specifically for this record, rather than culled from the Workshop’s pre-existing output for TV and radio. The exceptions are Paddy Kingsland’s ‘The Panel Beaters’ and ‘The World Of Science’ and Dick Mills’ ‘Major Bloodnok’s Stomach’, the latter having been written by The Goon Show. This is the Radiophonic Workshop unleashed, with composers Malcolm Clarke and Glynis Jones collaborating on the hypnotic ‘Nénuphar’, while Jones’ own ‘Veils And Mirrors’ is an icy spine-tingler. With Dick Mills’ haunting ‘Adagio’ and Roger Limb’s mutant bossa nova ‘Geraldine’, it all comes together to create a great collection of mid-70s electronica, part-haunted Scarfolk territory and part-jolly tunemongery, like a soundtrack to particularly bracing LSD experience.
