Description

Buried Treasure label boss Alan Gubby unearthed several reels of music and sound effects from the 1960s BBC TV series ‘Vendetta’ – a mafia-themed cop thriller starring Italian actor Stelio Candelli (‘Planet Of The Vampires’ and ‘Nude For Satan’) – while working on ‘The John Baker Tapes’ compilation for Trunk Records. One of the Radiophonic Workshop’s most prolific early composers, John Baker produced tense, rhythmic, James Bond-style themes for the first series of ‘Vendetta’ in 1966. With screaming jazz solos, twanging basslines, live drums and radiophonic effects, the music is thrilling, sleazy, deranged and very hip. Highlights from the score are presented alongside a selection of other rare and unreleased Baker tracks, all digitally remastered by Mark Ayres from the Radiophonic archives. Sleeve notes come from one of the show’s original creators, screenwriter Brian Degas (‘Barbarella’, ‘The Saint’ and ’Colditz’).
