A new experimental touring network called Outlands is to begin its first tour in May. It was developed “out of a motivation to pool expertise and resources, to encourage diversity and accessibility and to support engaging and ambitious interdisciplinary music productions”.
The Outlands network aims to champion the genre-resistant, and to bring “adventurous interdisciplinary music to the forefront”. It will bring together 10 visual artists and music organisations, as well as creative producers from eight regions during its pilot phase, which will last for two years.
The first in the series sees a new live collaboration between US composer and saxophonist Matana Roberts and British artist and improviser Kelly Jayne Jones. Other tours to follow this year include Yunohana Variation (Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Susie Ibarra & Yoshimio) in June and Raster Noton Vs Drift in November. More details about future tours will be released in the coming months.
