Father and Son cover ‘The Robots’ by Kraftwerk

Father/Son Robots

Father and Son cover ‘The Robots’ by Kraftwerk. “My goal here was to spend some creative time with my 6 year old son, teaching him about music production and synthesizers. I also wanted to introduce him to Kraftwerk—heroes of mine since childhood!”

Watch their brilliant video below

Andrew (the father) writes on his blog:

In addition to teaching my son about the production process and having fun with synths, I wanted to learn more about how Kraftwerk crafted their arrangements. It was also a great opportunity to  study sound design and learn how to use some of my new synthesizers.

Almost all of the synths used to make the track were in the video: a Moog Mother-32, Roland JU-06, Korg Arp Odyssey and a PO-12 Pocket Operator –a tiny drum machine by Teenage Engineering. Off-screen, we used a Novation MiniNova for Vocoding. I also added a custom kick and clap to boost the PO-12 beat.

Good work guys! If you like Kraftwerk then you’ll love the very first issue of Electronic Sound magazine. And we’re giving it away for free! (usually £4.99). All you have to do is type in your email below so we can send you the PDF for free
